GOVERNMENT YESTERDAY said it was so far aware of four Jamaican citizens currently in the Middle Eastern country of Lebanon, which has been facing military bombardment from Israel over the past week.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Government has been making concerted efforts to ensure the safe evacuation of those Jamaicans from Beirut, and has been in contact with the British authorities for assistance.
"The ministry has been in telephone contact with one of the Jamaicans, who has assured the ministry that she, as well as the other three persons, including five-year-old Georgio Hado, are safe and sound, although anxious to depart," the Foreign Affairs Ministry said.
EVACUATION ARRANGEMENTS
The ministry has requested that Jamaicans with knowledge of any other nationals currently in Lebanon to urgently inform it so that effort can be made to include them, if they so desire, in any evacuation arrangements being put in place.
