published: Friday | July 21, 2006

YET ANOTHER place has been renamed in honour of reggae icon, Bob Marley.

The city of New York recently renamed a section of Church Avenue in Brooklyn, USA, 'Bob Marley Boulevard' in honour of Marley, for which an unveiling ceremony, was held on Saturday, July 1. It was a long-awaited move and the motion was finally voted on by the New York Council on May 10 to have the stretch of Church Avenue renamed.

The Bob Marley Foundation, in a release, said they are "very pleased and truly thankful for the love shown to this great Jamaican by Jamaicans living at home and abroad, and by so many persons worldwide. This latest honour bestowed on Bob Marley by naming Church Avenue, Bob Marley Boulevard, is another manifestation of love and respect for this great Jamaican."

Some of the places already named after Marley are Marley Boulevard and Bob Marley Way in Jamaica and 'Bob Marley - A Tribute To Freedom' - a café located at Universal Orlando's Resort in Orlando, Florida, opened in 1999.and serves Jamaican cuisine with live reggae music played in the background.
