Revealing corruption

THE EDITOR, Sir:
REGARDING THE UDC scandal, we have the utmost respect for the Contractor General finally revealing the corruption and irregular practices in these multimillion-dollar projects. Regardless of what is said by Colin Campbell, we are sure that the Government was well aware of who was involved in the project, given its prominence and their close ties with those involved.
Once again, we are shown the blatant disregard the persons involved have for the Jamaican people - we cannot find funds to pay our civil servants, yet the money is found to deal with this US$40 million overrun ... where those funds went is another issue entirely.
To date, no one in Government has been held accountable or prosecuted for the several instances of mismanagement of funds. It is left for us to see whether the PM can stand by her words regarding corruption. However, given the close ties of those involved, we expect it to be swept under the carpet once more, thus ensuring that it will continue to happen, with the perpetrators having no fear of the consequences.
