Whirlwind victory for Ja
published: Saturday | July 22, 2006

Taylor ... Man of the Match.

JAMAICA GOT off to a whirlwind start in the regional Stanford Twenty20 cricket tournament when they hammered Bermuda by nine wickets at the Stanford Cricket Ground in Antigua last night.

Man of the Match Jerome Taylor bagged five for 10 from 3.4 overs as Jamaica bowled out Bermuda for the lowest total since the start of the competition 74 runs the last wicket falling in the 20th over.

Opener Chris Gayle slammed five fours and three sixes in a chanceless 40 off 22 balls to lead Jamaica's charge to victory, which was achieved in only 5.5 overs. Carlton Baugh won the Play of the Match award for a sharp run-out. Marlon Samuels, dropped off the first ball, scored 25 not out off 12 deliveries with four fours and a six. Xavier Marshall was dismissed for nought off the second ball he faced.

Meanwhile, Travis Dowlin (54) hit an unbeaten half-century and shared an unbroken stand for the third wicket with Narsingh Deonarine to carry Guyana to a comfortable eight-wicket victory over Montserrat in the Stanford Twenty20 Tournament yesterday at the Stanford Cricket Ground.

Scores:

MONTSERRAT 115 for eight off 20 overs (Brian Stephnie 21 not out, McPherson Meade 21; Mahendra Nagamootoo 2-13, Neil McGarrell 2-31); GUYANA 116 for two off (Travis Dowlin 54 not out, Narsingh Deonarine 31, Ramnaresh Sarwan 22.
