Melbourne face Kensington in feature showdown
published: Saturday | July 22, 2006

DEFENDING champions Melbourne and Kensington face-off in today's feature match of the 2006 Capital & Credit all-island limited overs competition at Melbourne Oval, starting at 10:00 a.m.

The Kangaroos have four points from their lone match while Kensington, whose match was rained out last week, have five points from two matches.

The Group (D) is completed by St. James with four points from two matches, St. Mary (one) and Kingston & St. Andrew (zero).

TOP PLAYERS ABSENT

Like the opening round, the teams will be affected by the absence of their top players.

Melbourne who are without national representatives Marlon Samuels, Carlton Baugh Jr. and Donovan Pagan, will now depend heavily on Llewellyn Meggs, Andre McCarthy, Yanick Elliott and Leon Bent.

Kensington will enter the match without Jamaica skipper Wavell Hinds, who is also representing Jamaica in the Stanford Twenty20 tournament in Antigua.

Kensington will also miss fast bowler Daren Powell who is away on West Indies 'A' Team duties in England.

In their absence, Maurice Kepple, Marcus Stewart, Samuel Douglas and Dennis Bulli will carry the Preston Road-based club's fight.

After two rounds, Gary Graham of Manchester head the runs table with 174 and an average of 87, while Police's Demetrius Francis (112) and Daniel Ricketts of Manchester (90) are next in line.

Ainsley Goss of St. Elizabeth and Evroy Dyer of Portland lead with seven wickets each, while Daren Grey of Portland and Donovan Sinclair have six wickets each.
