Rear Admiral Peter Brady is hailing various arms of Government for their part in ensuring Jamaica's compliance with maritime security strategies in the post-9/11 era.
"The interest, response and cooperation from the shipping industry and from Government entities at all levels are some of the main reasons for Jamaica's significant compliance, and indeed success, with the implementation of the new maritime security measures," Rear Admiral Brady, director general of the Maritime Authority of Jamaica, said.
These were his concluding remarks as he addressed the 2006 Latin American Cargo and Border Security Summit, in Miami recently. Rear Admiral Brady spoke on the implementation and maintenance of the new maritime security requirements in Jamaica.
The 2006 Latin American Cargo and Border Security Summit took place on July 13 and 14, and brought together key government agencies and security directors at ports, airports, airlines, shipping companies, cruise liners and technology providers to discuss the latest developments and solutions.
SECURITY ISSUES
According to the organisers, "The overall theme of the event was to define and explore the specific cargo and border security issues and concerns in and around Latin America and the Caribbean. Using the perspectives of end-uses in Latin America and the Caribbean, the summit sought to present these issues in a way that encourages discussion and mutual understanding, with a drive to guiding and forming business opportunity for all parties."
