Give Jamaica a chance
published: Wednesday | July 26, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I noticed a letter recently which was bemoaning the fact that our new prime minister has done nothing in her first 100 days in office.

This is absolutely untrue. In her first 100 days, the PM has given us a poorly-resolved cement crisis with a devastated construction industry; she has given us the excessive Portmore toll; she has given us the nurses' industrial action, with the subsequent doctors' and police officers' actions; she has given us the JPS/Mirant sell-out deal with a few power cuts thrown in for good measure; and she has given us many self-appraising speeches which addressed none of the nation's woes.

So, in fact, the PM has been very busy, busy giving us more of what we've got for the last 17 years. How stupid of us to think we were going to get anything else. "Give 'Sista P' a chance" is but another chapter to a terrible nightmare. It is time to give Jamaica a chance, at the very next elections too. May God help us.

I am, etc.,

100 DAYS SUFFERER
