Nurses to 'campaign' for salary increase
published: Thursday | July 27, 2006

The Nurses Association of Jamaica (NAJ) says it will be intensifying its public education campaign today, following the Ministry of Finance and Planning's declaration that it cannot give the nurses a salary increase beyond what it is currently offering them.

The Government had offered the nurses a 22 per cent increase over two years, but that offer was rejected by the membership of the NAJ.

But the nurses want entry level members who currently take home $31,000 to get a net salary of $60,000.

"Our nurses islandwide will recommence the public education campaign but on an intensified basis, because the Minister of Finance is paying us scant regard," said Edith Allwood-Anderson, president of the NAJ.
