  • Emancipation Jubilee

Enjoy African fashion, food and music at the Jamaica National Heritage Trust's (JNHT) 10th Anniversary of Emancipation Jubilee.

Andrea Braham, public relations officer at JNHT, says the event is a cultural tribute in honour of our African ancestors and should be a must for families. "If you want your children to know more about the African side of our culture then this is the place to be," says Ms. Braham.

The Emancipation Jubilee happens over two days - this Sunday and Monday. The theme for Sunday's event is 'Sounds of Freedom' and the activities commence at 3:00 p.m. with the Jamaica Regiment Band and the Jomimi music group out of Guadeloupe at the St. Ann's Bay Parish Library. Admission is free.

On Monday, pre-Emancipation Day, the jubilee goes into overdrive . "This is the big night," says Ms. Braham. Cultural entertainment will be provided by Kingston Drummers, Port Morant Kumina Group, Manchioneal Cultural Group, The Senior's Cultural Group specialists of nine-night performances, and other groups. Activities starts at 8:00 p.m. and admission is $800 for adults.

"The Emancipation Jubilee is an opportunity to expose the children to the African culture's retention in our heritage," says Ms. Braham. "Come with your enamel mug and let us have chocolate tea together," she continues. There is a gate prize of a car.

  • Into Food Festivals
