New apprentices in action today
published: Saturday | July 29, 2006

Twelve of the 15 apprentices who recently graduated from the Jockeys' Training School will ride for the first time against senior jockeys at Caymanas Park today.

The youngsters have secured rides in most of the races on the 10-race programme, particularly the fourth over the straight five course in which six of them have rides.

The apprentices on show are Delroy Beharie, Omar Walker, Rayan Wilson, Duv'on Litchmore, Oral Bennett, Kevin Blake, Harriston Lewis, Carlton Malcolm, Lenroy Collins, Jason Simpson, Javour Simpson and Andre Martin.

At the July 18 graduation ceremony on the grounds of the Jamaica Racing Commission, Winchester Road, Litchmore gave the valedictory address.

From the batch of 16 one did not graduate. Akeem Grant broke a leg and was unable to finish the six-month training course.

He will graduate on his own after completing basic riding and race riding courses in the weeks ahead.
