Capitalise on Polish Market

Orville Clarke, Freelance Writer

TWELVE horses are slated to contest today's principal feature for the Aston Commock Memorial Trophy over 1700 metres, one of three trophy races on the 10-race programme.

In addition to the Commock Trophy, run in memory of the late champion trainer (1960) and Hall of Famer, the card also features the round five Terremoto Trophy for native bred two-year-olds - a race which brings together previous winners JAZZY JET, LADY NAGIN, RHYMAT, TOOT DI HOOT and BUNKER DUST in a field of six; and race No. 1 in the second CTL Claiming series ($200,000 and less) over 1300 metres, with 12 starters declared.

The Richard Azan-trained JAZZY JET, who impressed in winning in record time on her debut over 600 metres straight on June 3 with former champion Wesley Henry up, continues to look the part at exercise and with Lasix now administered, will not go down easily.

PURE JUSTICE, who won impressively over 1200 metres in a fast time (1:14.1) on June 3, should take a lot of beating when he steps down to contest Race 1 in the CTL Claiming Series No.2.

The 12-horse field contains some useful campaigners such as MOST WANTED, KERMIT, QUICK MEDIC, RAZZAK, SIR CHARLES and SAMMY MY GIRL. But PURE JUSTICE (Paul Francis up), who was beaten by RUCKUS on a $290,000 tag over the straight on July 8, looks a cut above present company.

The Aston Commock Memorial Trophy race should provide keen competition among recent winners I AM PAID FOR and HIGH GRADE, along with JELEN'S CHOICE, SOY MUJER and POLISH MARKET in a 12-strong field.

While the Welsh Soutar-trained top weight I AM PAID FOR won easily over the circular nine course on July 15, it is left to be seen whether he can successfully allow 4.0kg to POLISH MARKET who failed by a neck to catch DIAMOND EXPRESS over 1800 metres on June 21.

The four-year-old filly from the stables of Noel Ennevor could be deemed an unlucky loser that day, having suffered interference when attempting to improve on the inside at the half-mile and lost ground as a result.

POLISH MARKET had previously won over today's trip on April 17 at the expense of subsequent winner HIGH GRADE and SOY MUJER, a race in which the then favourite I AM PAID FOR could only manage sixth after missing the break.

She renews rivalry with I AM PAID FOR on 2.0kg better terms and although the latter should prove a different kettle of fish, even under top weight of 57.0kg, POLISH MARKET is preferred.

I also like SHIVOYNE in the 2nd race, ESTOY LISTO in the 5th, IT'S IN THE GLOVE over ASKAWOMAN in the 7th and down-in-class GOLDEN LEAP to romp the nightpan.
