Ja's 4x100 men get CAC bronze
published: Sunday | July 30, 2006

Paul-Andre Walker, Staff Reporter

JAMAICA'S 4x100 metres men's team notched up another bronze medal for the country at the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in Cartagena, Colombia last night.

The team Xavier Brown, Carl Barrett, Lerone Clarke and Leford Green clocked 39.40 seconds to mine the medal.

In what was a tight race, the Netherland Antilles (39.29) and the Bahamas (39.32) proved too strong.

Disappointment

In the women's 4x100, Jamaica were disappointed after their team of Andrea Bliss, Toni-Ann Doyley, Janice Daley and Nyoka Cole finished second only to be disqualified for a lane violation.

Cuba finished first in 43.29 seconds while Colombia were upgraded to second in 44.32 and the Bahamas made their way on to the medal podium in 44.34.

Jamaica's second bronze medal last night came in the women's javelin when Olivia McCoy threw 56.82m.

Karen Beudle, just missed out on a medal in the women's high jump as her leap of 1.82m landed her in fourth place.

In the 800m women's event, Althea Chambers finished down the track in seventh position after her time of 2:08.27 couldn't match a fast-paced race that ended in 2:05 with Cuba's Zulia Torres.

At press time last night, Jamaica were down to compete in the men's and women's 4x400m relay events, while the men's shot put was ongoing.

Dorian Scott and Jason Morgan were Jamaica's representatives.
