Cops injured in Red Hills fracas
published: Wednesday | August 2, 2006

Samuda

A standoff between residents and a police party yesterday on Red Hills Road, St. Andrew, has left a police corporal and a constable nursing minor injuries and several persons detained.

"The constable was hit with a stone, while the corporal was spat on, bitten and his denim torn off," said a spokesperson at the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN).

Contacted yesterday, Karl Samuda, the Member of Parliament for the area, said he had no knowledge of what had taken place in his constituency. However, reports are that a police party went to the community in the morning to conduct an operation in the vicinity of 100 Lane. During the operation, a confrontation developed between the lawmen and the residents. This was followed by a stone throwing incident.

The CCN was unable to say exactly what had caused the stand-off between both parties. It is alleged that the police went into the area in search of wanted men, drugs and illegal guns and ammunition.
