Encouraging news
published: Wednesday | August 2, 2006

The Editor, Sir:

I am an avid reader of The Gleaner starting way back as a schoolboy at St. Elizabeth Technical High School. Today, I still read The Gleaner most days, even though it is the online version.

In the past few weeks, I have noticed a steady decrease in the number of homicides and violent crimes, as published by The Gleaner. This is very encouraging news for me because as a Jamaican, I am thinking seriously of returning to my country to reside, while still a young man. The only reason why I have not returned yet is my overwhelming concern with the upsurge of violence over the past few years.

I am very encouraged by the reports in the last two months, and I implore all Jamaicans to take a stand against criminality. Let us not forget the words most of us utter during our morning devotions while in school: "Eternal father bless our land ... Jamaica, Jamaica, Jamaica land we love."

I am, etc.,
