The Mercedes Benz CL has been redesigned. - Contributed STUTTGART:
Mercedes-Benz has completely redesigned its top-of-the-line coupe, the CL-Class, with all-new sheet metal and a full portfolio of advanced technology, including a new Intelligent Light System.
The redesigned CL goes on sale in the United States in November as a 2007 model.
The four-passenger coupe, which draws styling inspiration from the CLS sedan, grows slightly in most exterior dimensions, with a larger cabin and trunk as well.
510-horsepower twin-turbo
The CL600 is powered by a 510-horsepower twin-turbo 5.5-litre V12 mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. Mercedes quotes a 0-60-mph acceleration time of 4.3 seconds. The CL500, with its 382-hp 5.5-litre V8, can sprint from zero to 60 mph in less than 5.4 seconds, according to Mercedes.
Among the high-tech hardware on the 2007 CL are Keyless Go, dynamic multicontour seats with massage and ventilation, four-zone climate control, and a COMAND controller that operates such functions as the radio, DVD player, car phone and navigation system.
The Intelligent Light System, with its adaptive bi-xenon headlamps, provides five different lighting functions to match weather and driving conditions. The CL also comes with Mercedes' Pre-Safe 'anticipatory' occupant protection system, which incorporates automatic partial braking in the event of an impending collision.
What this means to you: The S-Class is nice, but the CL is the real flagship of the Mercedes Benz lineup.
