The body of late Jamaican cultural icon, Louise Bennett-Coverley, will be on view at the National Arena in St. Andrew today and tomorrow. The viewing will be open to the public between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day.
Four policemen in ceremonial dress will stand watch at the casket throughout both days and there will be intervals when two persons from the cultural community will join the police vigil party.
Those expected to stand in vigil alongside the police are Sydney Bartley, director of culture, Ministry of Tourism, Entertainment and Culture; Brian Heap and Carolyn Allen from the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative and Performing Arts; Lalita Davis-Mattis, Lloyd Wright and June Bolton from the National Heritage Trust; and Tracey Commock, Dr. Jonathan Greenland, Kerry-Ann Palmer and Bernard Jankee from the Institute of Jamaica.
Tributes
During the viewing of the body, the public will also get the opportunity to pay tribute to 'Miss Lou' by signing a condolence book that will be set up at the arena.
The funeral for Miss Lou will be held at the Coke Methodist Church at East Parade downtown Kingston on Wednesday, August 9, at 2:00 pm. She will then be buried at National Heroes Park.
Miss Lou passed away on July 26 at the Scarborough Grace Hospital in Toronto, Canada after collapsing at home early in the morning.
