The Editor, Sir:
When the People's National Party's (PNP) presidential race was on earlier this year, I was one of those persons who, although yearning for change in the politics of Jamaica, adopted a wait-and-see attitude.
Having assessed the candidates from my spectator standpoint, I secretly hoped that of the three Mrs. Simpson Miller would win. My secret wish was based solely on the fact that when I was a youth, Mrs.Simpson Miller had succeeded in locking up a prominent Jamaican who had stolen farm workers' money. Upon this premise I was hoping she would do something to arrest the corruption so evident in Jamaica and lock up those responsible. After all, she was "chosen by God". How naive I was! What I had not borne in mind was that the Jamaican locked up for farm workers' money was from the opposing party.
I will not dispute the claim Mrs Simpson Miller makes about being "chosen by God" to head the government at this time. From where I sit though, I am wondering if she was sent to chastise us some more for the evils being perpetrated in Jamaica.
Well, if the claim she makes was not just another ploy to get the majority of Jamaicans who only survive by hope in God, to trust her, but she is truly "chosen by God" she will know what the following means: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN.(Daniel 5:25.)
I am, etc.,
