Lara named T&T's Int'l Cricketer of the Year

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC):

The Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (T&TCB) named West Indies cricket captain Brian Lara its 'International Cricketer of the Year, Saturday, at the board's 50th annual presentation award function.

Lara got the nod after leading the West Indies to victory in the One-Day Limited Overs Series against Zimbabwe and India in the Caribbean.

The executive of the local board named T&T skipper Daren Ganga, who guided the country to a notable regional double success in 2005/2006, National Senior Cricketer of the Year'.

And former T&T and West Indies wicketkeeper David Williams, who is the coach of the national senior team, captured the T&TCB President's Award that was at stake for the first time.

'National Youth Cricketer of the Year'

Promising off-spinner Sunil Narine, who will lead his country's challenge in the TCL Group West Indies Under-19 tournament which bowls off tomorrow in Guyana, was named 'National Youth Cricketer of the Year'.

T&T allrounder Samuel Badree captured the coveted Carib National Cricket League 'Cricketer of the Year'title, while national opening batsman Mario Belcon was voted the 'Most Outstanding Player' in the Carib Sunday League Limited Overs tournament.

Hard-hitting Clico Preysal Sports and T&T middle-order batsman Shazan Babwah copped the 'Most Outstanding Player' in the inaugural Carib Shield 20/20 tournament.

T&T's most successful manager in recent times Omar Khan won the 'Administrator of the Year' award.

G-Sports' Naz Yacoob copped the prestigious Carib Media Award for the fourth consecutive year.
