Jamaica's first criminal case of trafficking in persons involving two elderly men is now before the Home Circuit Court.
The men are Agon Stephens, a 52-year-old woodcrafter, and Narcot Graham, a 54-year-old businessman and taxi operator, of Kingston addresses.
They are charged with trafficking in persons and procuring a 14-year-old to become a prostitute.
The Crown is alleging that, in May this year, the men planned with an undercover police officer for him to have sexual intercourse with the girl for US$400. The money was allegedly paid to the men and, they were held when the police later swooped down on them.
The men first appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court but their application for bail was denied. They were remanded pending a preliminary enquiry into the matter.
Last week the Director of Public Prosecutions decided that the case should proceed to trial and preferred a Voluntarily Bill of Indictment. The case was then sent to the Home Circuit Court for trial.
Graham and Stephens appeared last week Thursday before Mr. Justice Wesley James and was remanded until September 22 when the case will be mentioned.
