The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has received a much-needed boost to its intelligence gathering capabilities with the donation of four new computers by the Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS).
Head of the St. Andrew Central Police Division, Senior Super-intendent George Quallo, accepted the computers from Carlton Barclay, the assistant general of finance, planning and administration at JNBS. The computers will be installed at the recently-established Divisional Intelligence Unit to further improve the JCF's strategies in gathering and interpreting data.
Welcome addition
Senior Superintendent Quallo noted that they were a welcomed addition to the Divisional Intelligence Unit. "The existing computers are very slow because they are almost filled to capacity.
These new computers will help to enhance the turn around time of the various reports that we generate from information provided by citizens," he added.
Senior Superintendent Quallo noted that due to improved intelligence gathering, the police have seen a marked reduction in crime in St. Andrew Central, particularly in murder and shooting.
Mr. Barclay congratulated SSP Quallo and the police on their success in crime fighting and encouraged other corporate organisations to offer them similar assistance. "Crime fighting cannot be the sole prerogative of the police," he said. "When corporate organisations help the police, we also help to protect ourselves and build Jamaica because businesses cannot thrive in a crime-infested country."
Senior Superintendent Quallo praised the JNBS for its display of good corporate citizenship, noting that the police need the support of all well-thinking Jamaicans in the nation's fight against crime.
