The Editor, Sir:
Allow me to join the many well-wishers, family and friends who have collectively expressed their deep appreciation and gratitude to the Hon. Louise Bennett-Coverley for her unstinting service to national and cultural life. The contributions of this phenomenal woman, iconic cultural institution, theatre artiste and Jamaican extraordinaire have, indeed, impacted our lives in very meaningful ways. Her contributions are timeless and are an example for all to emulate.
On behalf of the generation once or twice removed, we say thanks 'Miss Lou' and walk good!
Congratulations also to the orga-nisers of the official funeral in honour of one of our celebrated national treasures. I felt truly proud to be a Jamaican today (Wednesday, August 09, 2006).
You are safe
So 'Miss Lou', while we are saddened by your passing, we are confident that you have gone on to meet 'dem odda one' in Guinea Land with your characteristic good humour, charm and grace. Your pioneering efforts in the field of 'nation language' will not soon be forgotten and we are very delighted that you have been celebrated in a way truly befitting a national hero, or heroine as the case might be.
Thanks and Godspeed!
