Boonoonoonoos for Miss Lou
published: Friday | August 11, 2006

Our late cultural icon Louise Bennett-Coverley (Miss Lou) set a standard for fashion in the entertainment/theatre industries, so it was only fitting that those who turned out to say farewell to her on Wednesday would look their best. And she must have been smiling when she saw the many splashes of bandanna that adorned heads, and embellished outfits. The Gleaner captured some of the highlights.

Bystanders peruse a funeral programme at the official funeral for Miss Lou. Programmes were a hot ticket, and so eager were people in the crowd to get a copy they behaved in a fashion that the late cultural icon would certainly regard as 'boogoyagga'! - Norman Grindley/Deputy Chief Photographer

Our security forces always look regal and for Miss Lou's funeral, it was the same. This mourner was all smiles as she seemed to have their protection all to herself. - Ian Allen/Staff Photographer

Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller is always radiant, and she chose a fetching black suit. - Rudolph Brown/Chief Photographer

Actress Sheryl Lee Ralph effectively contrasted her funereal black with vibrant bandanna. - Rudolph Brown/Chief Photographer
