The Business House Netball Association's 2006 Divisional League began on Thursday at the Leila Robinson courts with seven matches in Intermediate A and B and Junior leagues.

In the opening game, juniors Continental Baking Company (CBC) beat Wray and Nephew 25-15 in a rather clumsy match that consisted of many dropped catches, turnovers and misdirected passes that went outside. Additionally, most of the times players were scrambling for balls on the ground.

The bakery team made use of most of their centre passes, while Wray and Nephew were not as efficient and also had a problem getting the ball into the net as the goal attack carelessly tried to shoot.

FAIRLY GOOD GAME

Still, watching from the bench, injured captain Veronic Knight told The Gleaner the game was fairly good.

"I think my players could do a lot better despite losing by 10. The ball handling, we had a lot of passes that wasn't going through. We lost a lot of balls in the middle court," she said.

Jennifer Blackwell, CBC's captain, was proud of the team but disappointed.

"We made some simple mistakes, like stepping, but it was a good game. At this level we shouldn't be stepping," she said.

Though placed in the Junior league, she says her team has shown much improvement despite some key players being absent.

The divisional leagues continue today at 3:00 p.m. where National Water Commission 'B' face Port Authority, First Caribbean International Bank play Aerotel and Victoria Mutual Building Society shoot against NEM Insurance.

Play continues at 5:15 p.m. with Jamaica Urban Transit Corporation tackling Bank of Jamaica, Courts challenging National Housing Development Commission, Bank of Nova Scotia 'B' battling Lasco and Digicel trying against Air Jamaica.

At 4:00 p.m. the mid-season rally resumes with the final scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
