Daahlings, let's talk style! No, not the piaha-piaha affectation sported like confetti by the gauche, who in their futile attempt to claim the haute-ground would despoil their social superiors. But let's talk true and inimitable style, you know as in the style of the fabulous and or the well-to-do!
To begin with, it's really no secret, that you can tell those with fabulous style by the way they prepare their vegetables, pretty much the same way you can discern the pretenders by the way they handle their help.
The style-perfect, will always serve-up crisp vegetables, braised to perfection and not cooked like a stew. The style arbiter always seeks to reassure and or promote those of a lesser social standing, not denigrate in order to feel good about themselves.
There are no specially reserved cutlery, china or glassware for the help in the home of the style denizens; and their parents or poorer relatives are not social-embarrassment, locked away in a backroom away from the buzz of our daily lives, because English, is not their mother tongue.
And very importantly, the style-perfect, go on holidays, pretenders, take a vacation! And so, the uninitiated ask, what's the difference between a vacation and a holiday?
My daahlings, the difference is simply this: A vacation is a fixed period, during which those vacationing pack as many an activity in that period as the budget will allow.
On the other hand, a holiday, is a period of leisure, established to enjoy only the finest luxuries, social intercourse and the bounties of life, whether they be the historic viewings or simply the thrill of breaking from one's predetermined schedule.
And so it is, that speaking of holidays, the fabulous and faultlessly well-to-do regional conglomateur Desmond Blades, and his pre-eminent socialite wife, Mrs. Peggy Blades; the noted and celebrated legal luminary, Chris Bovell and his marvellously grande wife, the lovely Michelle Bovell; and retired hotelier and magnate Anthony Watson and his fabulous wife, Jeanne Watson - are all back, my dears, from a fabulous European vacation, that took them from London to the famed St. Petersburg and the palaces of Czar Peter The Great, plus a number of other historical stops, and my word, the buzz is it was all that, and then some!
And so, it used to be that there were those who thought that a trip to Miami, Florida, was the ultimate in a vacation/holiday getaway, but alas, that was then.
With 'Spanglish' now being an almost required language for those wishing to venture to that United States city, Miami, has lost its lustre, and so the ruling members of the Jamaican upper-classes no longer jet to Miami for anything, but to catch a connecting flight on to more exotic and historically rewarding destinations, usually in Europe.
Congrats to Kenny
Then, my daahlings, congratulations are in order and definitely extended to Kenny Benjamin, on his being awarded the Commander of the Order of Distinction, in the recently announced national awards, for his sterling contribution in the field of entrepreneurship and business.
And the fab ladies of Leo will continue their birthday celebrations all through this here coming week and into the next, as the fabulously beautiful Lisa Hanna will celebrate on the 20th; the charmingly lovely Marilyn Bennett on the 22nd; Nicola Cunningham of the Pure Class, on the 22nd, as well with the fabulous Josephine McGann celebrating hers yesterday.
Also celebrating the season of Leo is the Jamaica Pegasus's GM Eldon Bremner and Digicel's Harry Smith; plus a host of other fabulous people.
And last Friday, it was all about the fabulous Kevin and Cecile Levee, who celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary, over there at their Runaway Bay beach front home, with a little intimate soiree, restricted a critically hand-picked shortlist of friends and family. Luvs, many a-happy returns y'all and champagne toasts and caviar treats.
