Despite formidable competi-tion, the parish of Westmoreland retained the overall parish cham-pion title at the just concluded Denbigh Agricultural and Indus-trial show.
The parish was awarded the coveted Percival Broderick Trophy for the 16th time in a row. Bold attempts were made to wrest the title from Westmoreland by St. Catherine and St. James, which placed second and third, respectively.
"We are feeling very good," said an obviously elated Owen Dobson, president of the Westmoreland Association of Branch Societies of the Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS).
Mr. Dobson attributed the victory to the input of the Rural Agricultural Development Agency (RADA), the JAS, the Jamaica Horticultural Society and the many dedicated farmers and citizens of the parish.
The parish display highlighted the best of horticulture, home economics and food crops and featured a replica of National Champion Farmer Jimmy Jackson's farm and his hotel, the Negril Tree House Club.
Westmoreland also placed third in the parish Pavilion Competition, and copped the sectional prize for Environmental Sustainability.
