Score big during Cricket World Cup
published: Thursday | August 17, 2006

When Cricket World Cup starts next year, thousands of persons from around the world are expected to visit Jamaica. So why not take opportunity of this golden opportunity?

Yes, you could make some extra money by converting your home into a bed and breakfast home-stay facility. This means that you use your home to provide visitors with sleeping accommodation, for a fee, for at least one night with breakfast provided daily. The home should offer no more than four bedrooms to accommodate guests.

Get certified

But you must be certified in order to do this. To get certified, all you have to do is pick up an application form from the Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCo), fill it out and hand it back to them. You must also provide TPDCo with a brief description of the home you intend to open to the guests, two letters of reference and a tax registration number (TRN). You must also have public liability insurance.

TPDCo will contact the qualified applicants about inspection of the homes and to arrange compulsory participation in a Bed and Breakfast Hospitality Services seminar. After that, you're all set to go.

For more information, call TPDCo at 968-3441.
