Almost a month after the release of Contractor General Greg Christie's caustic report on the Sandals Whitehouse Hotel project, critical documents, which proved elusive during the investigation, have finally been surrendered to the watchdog of the country's awards process.
In the report, tabled in the House of Representatives on July 17, Mr. Christie said his office
was led to believe the Urban Development Corporation (UDC) had deliberately withheld information from it during the conduct
of investigations into the Westmoreland-based hotel project.
Unable to secure
The investigative team at the Office of the Contractor General yesterday said it has received several documents it was previously unable to secure.
The oversight body also announced that it was in the process of
perusing the details of the documents and would make a statement when the review is completed.
Additionally, the Office of the Contractor-General disclosed that it was also in possession of documents that Gorstew Limited said supports its claim that a concept shift was not responsible for the multibillion-dollar overrun.
Breaches of procedures
Last month, the Contractor General accused government entities and officials, including then UDC chairman, Dr. Vin Lawrence, of committing flagrant breaches of procurement procedures on the controversial construction project.
Mr. Christie recommended that the legislature ensure public bodies and public officials who breached procurement procedures be held accountable.
Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller is still awaiting the findings of a forensic audit that should have been handed in earlier this week.
