GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC):
BARBADOS BROKE down stubborn lower-order resistance from Jamaica to gain a first-innings lead in their TCL Group West Indies Under-19 third-round match at Everest yesterday.
After being dismissed for 241, Barbados' bowlers secured them first-innings honours when they dismissed the Jamaicans for 186, a lead of 55 runs.
Jamaica had put themselves in a good position to grab vital first- innings points, dismissing the Bajans for 241 after they had resumed on 229 for nine overnight.
Opening batsman Jed Yearwood added just eight runs to his overnight score to finish on 80.
When Jamaica replied, Jamie Trenchfield took the fight to the Barbadian bowlers with a defiant 59, but began to run out of partners as wickets fell steadily around him.
The left-handed batsman, who gave up the captaincy after the last match, struck five fours and three sixes from 187 deliveries in a resolute innings which lasted 136 minutes.
Partnership
After Trenchfield was caught by captain Shamarh Brooks off the bowling of pacer Dawayne Sealy, Marcel Parchment and wicketkeeper André Lindsay made one final stand, sharing an eighth wicket partnership of 42.
Legspinner Brooks, however, cleaned up the tail by accounting for the dismissals of Parchment for 29 and Christopher Watson without scoring, leaving Linsday stranded on 20 not out.
Brooks ended with three for 27 while debutant Sealy took three for 43 and Kemar Roach, two for 49.
