Letter of the day - Reid right to cry shame on corporal punishment
The Editor, Sir: The Jamaica Teachers' Association's outgoing president, Ruel Reid, is right in saying that corporal punishment of children is an outdated approach to raising and educating children.

Religion of war

The Editor, Sir: Peter Espeut's brilliant article of August 16, 2006, "Fundamentalism again!", is a true reflection of what is going on in the Middle East.

Thanks for the good vibes, PM

The Editor, Sir: The Sounds and Pressure Committee commend Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller and staff at Jamaica House that this year honoured at the Prime Minister's Annual Independence Gala, 12 stalwarts of the Jamaican recorded music...

Excusing Israel

The Editor, Sir: The article in The Sunday Gleaner of August 6 under the heading 'The Arab/Israeli crisis', submitted by the Public Theology Forum, a group of local ministers of religion from different denominations, was very informative.

No room for defensiveness

The Editor, Sir: As one who benefited immensely from the ministry of the church at 6 Dayton Avenue in my teenage years (some 30 years ago), I grieve at the manner in which the church's leadership acted recently.

Improve RGD service

The Editor, Sir: I refer to the Letter of the Day published in The Gleaner on Friday, August 4, 2006, titled 'RGD response to spate of criticisms'.

No bed of roses

The Editor, Sir: I am shocked at how the recent emigrants from the West Indies to the United Kingdom view us who have been living and working very hard for many years. They think we have it very easy!
