The Editor, Sir: I refer to the Letter of the Day published in The Gleaner on Friday, August 4, 2006, titled 'RGD response to spate of criticisms'.
I was surprised to read the Registrar General's excuse being made for the incompetence which occurs at this vital government agency. Dr. Patricia Holness has taken one case out of the hundreds that have complained to try justifying the poor service at the RGD.
Something must be wrong
The mere fact that the RGD feels the need to respond to the number of criticisms is evidence that something must be wrong with the service being provided.
I would like Dr. Holness to address all the Jamaicans who have sent accurate information to the RGD office and have to wait weeks after the deadline to receive certificates only to get them with names spelt incorrectly.
No government agency is above criticism. What they should try to do is analyse each complaint and use as an example to improve the quality of service provided to the public.
I am, etc.,
