The Clarendon police yesterday shot and killed four alleged gunmen and recovered three firearms during an early-morning operation in Alexandria, Chapelton.
Only one of the four, Anthony 'Trimble' Bennett of Sevens Road, May Pen, was identified at press time yesterday. Cleon Marsh, deputy superintendent in charge of crime in the parish, told The Sunday Gleaner that, at 5:00 a.m. yesterday, the police went to execute a warrant at a house in the community when the men fired on them.
The police said they took cover and also returned fire. When the gunfire subsided, the four men were found suffering from gunshot wounds in the house. They were taken to the Chapelton Hospital where they were pronounced dead.
Wanted
DSP Marsh said Mr. Bennett was wanted for several crimes in Clarendon, including the murder of Patrick Mason, a taxi operator who was murdered on August 10. His burnt remains were found in his motor vehicle in bushes in the Farm community the following day.
Meanwhile, the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) reported that a man has been charged for the murder of police Corporal Rowan Whyte.
Twenty-five-year-old Kevin Sanchez, also called 'Mona', of Matthews Lane, Kingston, has been charged with the lawman's death. He is also charged with shooting with intent, robbery with aggravation and illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
