Eric and Doris Frater during their anniversary celebrations. - Contributed
It was a grand affair when Doris and Eric Frater celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary at their residence on Charlemont Drive on August 4.
They celebrated with their children, grandchildren and numerous other relatives including Dorothy Paris, a sister of Mrs. Frater, as well as son Keith Curnow and wife Pat out of Toronto, Canada; close friends and well-wishers. Many of them spoke at length of the good deeds, encouragement and advice they received from Mr. and Mrs. Frater.
A musical tribute was done on CD and presented by the able disc jockey, Leonie Emden, representing the era 1946 to present. It was hilarious in parts. John McFarlene and granddaughter Erica Vendryes performed other tributes in song.
Officiating ministers were the Revs. Oliver Daley and Robert McLean. Master of ceremonies was the very witty Russell Hammond. The couple marched up the aisle decorated with mini palm trees and yellow ribbons. It was created by Dorothy Paris.
Of food and dancing
A delicious meal was prepared and presented by son Frederick Frater. After dinner and toasts, the cake was cut and the couple participated in reciprocal feeding.
Highlight of the evening was the presentation by Mr. Frater to his wife of a diamond ring, as he softly uttered, "Diamonds are forever." He concluded the formalities with a most eloquent vote of thanks.
It was then 'boogie time' and the music was well selected by DJ Emden.
