Accused drops dead in court
published: Tuesday | August 22, 2006

Sacha Walters, Staff Reporter

An accused man died in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court house before he could either profess his innocence or receive his punishment.

Lenroy Dias, 30, collapsed and later died while waiting in the Petty Sessions Court yesterday to hear his case. Individuals present said he was frothing at the mouth and nose.

The police removed Mr. Dias from the courtroom and took him to the Kingston Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Mr. Dias appeared in court to answer to charges of obstructing police after the authorities came to his house to serve a warrant on his brother and he got into an altercation with them.

Relatives who were present at court were distraught. One said Mr. Dias, who resides at 21 Arnold Road, had no history of illness.
