Three senior officers of the National Workers' Union (NWU) who are at odds with each other are to meet tomorrow to resolve an internal dispute between them for the top post in the union.
Clive Dobson, president of the NWU, who is at the centre of the controversy, told The Gleaner yesterday that he would be meeting with Danny Roberts, vice-president, and Vincent Morrison, vice-president and island supervisor, who are also vying for the presidential post.
Mr. Dobson said yesterday that it was important for the issues between him and the two aspirants to be resolved.
"The last thing I want as the president of the union is to have this thing continue to linger in the public. I am disappointed as it is that it had to reach the level of the public," he said. "I don't like to wash my dirty linen in the public but I wasn't the one who took it to the public, it is one of the aspirants who did it."
Mr. Dobson said the meeting was to avert the crumbling of the union. He said it would decide whether he would contest the presidential post at next month's biennial conference.
Yesterday, when contacted, Mr. Roberts refused to comment on the matter, while Mr. Morrison was unavailable for comment. Mr. Dobson has held the presidency of the NWU for the past 15 years. He succeeded retired trade unionist and politician Derrick Rochester.
