The advent of 'champagne socialism'?
published: Wednesday | August 23, 2006

The Editor, Sir:

Had this socialist party kept the goose that lays golden eggs, namely the lottery, schooling could be subsidised, if not free, and the health service could also use some of the millions going into some rich person's bank.

Is this equality or what I call champagne socialism, or those with money making fools of all those below them?

We need nurses, teachers, police personnel, and these should not have to rely on other jobs to supplement their income.

Mind you, if Mr. Lawrence was doing five jobs, just who are we to moan?

After all, we elect those champagne socialists. But if you do not vote, don't complain.

I am, etc.,

D. JACKS
