Route Taxi Operators in Spanish Town and its environs can now breathe a sigh of relief. This as the Transport Authority has substantially completed the rationalisation of over 64 routes in the Spanish Town area which were closed some time ago.
The authority says that since June of this year, it has collaborated with representatives of the St. Catherine Parish Council to evaluate the capacity of newly-constructed parking facilities, with a view to granting licences for those routes which can accommodate additional vehicles.
New residential areas
In addition, the authority continues surveys in several new residential areas in Spanish Town to determine new routes for which licences can be issued, a statement from the authority said.
The Transport Authority is reminding the public that the cost per route is still $7, 250 and not $25,000 that is being charged by some taxi associations.
The authority is warning associations that involvement in these activities will result in de-listing of said associations. It is urging anyone who may have paid this sum for these routes to report the matter to the Transport Authority.
