Guyana whip Jamaica en route to final
published: Wednesday | August 23, 2006

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, (CMC):

GUYANA EMPHATICALLY beat Jamaica by eight wickets at the Enmore Community Centre ground yesterday in the penultimate round of the TCL Group West Indies Under-19 tournament.

Set 85 to win after Jamaica, resuming at 183 for three, were dismissed for 304, Guyana reached their target for the loss of two wickets to move to an unassailable 42 points going into the final round which starts tomorrow.

Richard Ramdeen finished unbeaten on 34 while Gajanand Singh extended his good form with an unbeaten 25.

Guyana have now qualified for the final of the tournament which they will contest against the second-place finishers - most likely Barbados.

AT WALES: After three agonising days of frustration due to rain, the match between Barbados and Leeward Islands was finally called off without a ball being bowled on the third and final day yesterday.

While there was no rain yesterday, the damage had already been done by the heavy showers which caused play to be abandoned on the second day with 5.2 overs bowled in 26 minutes play after lunch.

The opening day on Sunday was also rained out without a ball bowled. Barbados virtually assured themselves of a place in the final however as they collected four points from the no-result to move to 28 points while the Leewards advanced to 16 points.

AT DEMERARA: The Windward Islands drew with Trinidad and Tobago on the third and final day of their rain-affected fourth round match.

SCORES: WINDWARDS 224 (T-Ran Harper, 82, Donwell Hector, 31, Lauron Francois, 22, Keron Cottoy, 22; Gareth Boodhai, 3-48, Jeewan Ramroop, 2-32, Sunil Narine, 2-42, Vishan Ramroop, 2-46) & 186-5 (Donwell Hector, 100 not out, Kevin James, 23, Andre Fletcher, 20; Visham Ramroop, 3-54). T&T 178 (Darren Bravo, 62, Adrian Barath, 47, Marlon Barclay, 23; Kerron Cottoy, 5-52, Hazel Charlery, 2-33).
