The Miss Jamaica World contestants strutted their stuff in high fashion at the pageant
held last Saturday at the Jamaica Pegasus. They glittered and glimmered in gowns
from Uzuri and accessories from Xtras. They oozed sex appeal in bathing suits
from the Mushroom.
Even though only one young lady left with the title of Queen, it was without a doubt that all looked lovely. Uzuri's standout style of combining elegance with sex appeal had most of the contestants looking fabulous. Miss Jamaica World 2006, Sara Lawrence, seemed to glide on stage in a white and gold dress. The dress, lacy and glittery at the top, with a gold, sheer bottom piece featured a hip-high slit that showed off her legs to full advantage.
Other standouts were Zahra McGraham, who shimmered in a black and blue gown. A number of dresses combined a mesh look set at the right places to look sexy but not overdone. The mesh material round the back and front of Zahra's gown gave it a very racy, sexy look but it still managed to come off as elegant.
Christelle Harris also had an interesting look. Her dress, which shimmered with various shades of blue, green and silver, gave an image of looking at the multi-coloured Caribbean Sea.
Lacian Roache's dress looked similar to one worn by American actress Halle Berry. The dress had a 'road trail' of mesh that teasingly revealed trails of flesh. The dress was an usual shade of pastel green.
Leontre
Roberts wore a gown that was reminiscent of old-time glamour.
The simple A-line close-fitting black dress had a deep cut at the back and a
smaller one at the front showing off Roberts' bustline. The diamond looking
studs across the back glammed up the outfit.
The bathing suit segment displayed an array of nationalist colours. This was the second year that contestants were allowed to wear bikinis, which showed off the girls' curvaceous figures. Decked in string bikinis in red, yellow and green, one could not make a more nationalistic statement. The opening number of the show also showed girls in the Rasta-inspired red, gold and green colours again, with little skirts and crocheted tops with white jackets.
This year's fashion display was a definite fashion upgrade from the last as normally one or two gowns stood out. This year all the gowns were lovely and fit each girl's body well.
