The Editor, Sir:
I totally support the building of proper homes for the residents of the inner city, and would like for the courtesy to be extended to the rural areas also. But my problem is, a number of these residents have not consistently paid their taxes and yet they are the beneficiary of a home at a minimal cost that our tax dollar has paid for.
I know that I sound contradictory, but I also would like to have my own home and the deposit required is just too challenging for me to obtain it. I am in my mid-thirties and have been working for the past 16 years and by having to pay my taxes and bills, I find it hard to meet the required three to four hundred thousand deposit for a home.
I can hear the sceptics saying that I don't practice good money management, but how can I when my salary can barely cover my expenses? I am sure that if the required deposit to own a home was not so high, the NHT would be overwhelmed by prospective first-time home owners.
I am etc.,
