Nothing wrong with helping the poor
published: Thursday | August 24, 2006

The Editor, Sir:

Why do most Jamaicans only think of themselves? The NHT was designed to help low-income workers achieve a roof over their head. What is the difference in using the trust money to build roofs over the head of inner-city people?

Those who are saying that the Government must not use the money from the NHT to fund the project are not human and should be ashamed of themselves. Let's ask those against it, when they go to work, do they work one week for food, one for rent and utilities, one for a car and one for clothes? No, all the money stays one place and you use what is needed for any purpose.

For any country to develop you must move the lower people upwards or you will be pulling too much weight. Madam PM, carry on with your project, it will bear fruit.

I am etc.,
