Police seize guns, drugs in raid

Five guns, including two high powered weapons, were seized by the police on Tuesday, during several operations carried out in the Kingston Metropolitan Area, St. Catherine and Clarendon.

On the first mission, an AK-47 assault rifle with 22 rounds of ammunition along with a quantity of ganja and cocaine was seized in Newlands, Portmore, St. Catherine. Facing charges of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition is 24-year-old Aaron Whitely, while 27-year-old Marlon Gossett was charged for illegal possession of ammunition.

Another AK-47 rifle with the serial number erased was found in an abandoned building on 100 Lane in east Kingston by members of the Kingston East and St. Andrew Central Division police. No one was arrested in connection with this find.

GUNS SEIZED

Further operations in downtown Kingston and Allman Town, central Kingston, led to the the seizure of two illegal 9mm pistols with 9 mm cartridges and 12 gauge cartridges. Andrew McGregor of a Kingston 4 address was arrested in connection with the find and is scheduled to appear in the gun court on August 25.

In another operation, a 36-year-old man in Chapelton, Clarendon, was arrested for breaches of the Firearms Act when he was found in the possession of a .38 Smith and Wesson revolver. He is Garfield Ferron of a Kingston 11 address.

Motor vehicle accessories believed to be stolen were also seized by the police.
