Jamaica, Panama draw
published: Thursday | August 24, 2006

Paul-Andre Walker, Staff Reporter

JAMAICA SUFFERED their first setback of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Youth Champion-ships after playing to a 1-1 draw with Panama at the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Trinidad and Tobago yesterday.

The Young Reggae Boyz had to come from a goal down in the 27th minute and a man down in the 47th to pull back a late equaliser in the 86th.

Dever Orgill, who has netted four times for the Jamaicans in this tournament, was again 'Mr. Reliable', as it was he who found the equaliser.

Panama put the Jamaicans on the ropes and, according to coach David Hunt, having Allan Sylvester sent off so early in the game didn't make matters any easier.

"It was a tough game as both teams played well," said Hunt.

"We got opportunities in the first half and their goal was scored because of a defensive lapse," he said.

Hunt did go on to congratulate his team which could have folded under the pressure.

"The team showed a lot of character, especially when we went down to 10 men early in the second half," Hunt said. "So I must congratulate the guys for a job well done," he said.

"We have been playing very well in the last 20 minutes of the games. If you look at the game against Canada we scored twice in the last few minutes and here again we scored in the 86th."

The result means that the Jamaicans still have work to do if they are to make the final.

In the other Group B game at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Mexico beat Canada 2-1.
