Jamaica take on Windwards
published: Thursday | August 24, 2006

ALREADY OUT of contention, sixth-place Jamaica will take on take fifth-place Windward Islands in the final round of the TCL Group West Indies Under-19 tournament at the Everest Cricket Club Ground in Georgetown, Guyana, today.

Three consecutive draws against Trinidad, the Leewards and Barbados and an eight-wicket loss to group leaders Guyana on Wednesday have left the Jamaicans at the bottom of the standings on six points.

The Windward Islands are also out of contention, having slumped to three draws of their own against Guyana, Leewards and Trinidad and a loss to Barbados but are on 12 points - having secured first innings points against Trinidad.

Guyana, who take on Barbados today at Bourda, remain comfortably out in front on 42 points and are the only team to secure themselves a spot in the final. Already on 28 points, the Bajans are odds-on favourites to nab the other final spot.

However, the Leeward Islands, on 16 points, will fancy themselves with a slim chance of an outright victory over T&T which could see them join second-place Barbados on 28 points.

The match between the Leewards and T&T will be played at the Police Sports Club.
