Crime cop hurt in crash
published: Tuesday | August 29, 2006

Walker

Crime officer, Superintendent Corneilius 'Calf' Walker, has been hospitalised in a critical condition following a motor vehicle accident in downtown Kingston, on Saturday.

Reports are that Mr. Walker's private motor car was hit by another motorist who ran the red light at the intersection of Harbour and Pechon streets, which is less than 100 metres from the Area Four police headquarters, where Supt. Walker was assigned.

"I am really concerned about this senior officer. He is one of those hard-working officers who has contributed significantly to the reduction of crime over the years. The accident brings grief to the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF)," commented Police Commissioner Lucius Thomas.

Warning to offenders

The top cop yesterday issued a stern warning that the traffic police will not turn a blind eye to indiscipline on the nation's streets.

"Motorists must obey the red light," he warned.

The police chief has joined fellow members of the JCF, relatives and well-wishers in offering support to Supt. Walker.

"He is like a teacher who took a number of young investigators through the CIB. We wish him all the best and hope that he returns to work soon," said Detective Deputy Superintendent Meveral Smith, of the St. Catherine North Police Division.

DSP Cornwall 'Bigga' Ford and the Flying Squad team were also shaken by the incident and wished Supt. Walker a speedy recovery.

Inspector Victor George Henry of the Constabulary Communication Network described Mr. Walker as a good commanding officer who always led from the front.

"We wish him all the best," said Inspector Henry.
