LETTER OF THE DAY - No to terror in Jamaica
published: Tuesday | August 29, 2006

The Editor, Sir:

The Muslims who strap bombs to themselves or orchestrate bombings resulting in deaths of innocent people are absolute fanatics. We in Jamaica have lived a life free of this kind of deliberate criminal activity at least up to this point.

Now we have to contend with the possible repatriation of the Muslim Cleric Sheikh Abdullah El Faisal who has been linked to the bombings in London last July. If he returns to Jamaica, I do believe our freedom from this kind of action is in dangerous jeopardy. So is the delicate balance of our tourism. I say NO to him returning. Let him be tried in the UK or in an international court of law and face the consequences of his actions. We already have our plate full with the existing crime situation.

There is no doubt that a proper resolve is required to the Palestinian plight. The world has seen the uneven balance of the scales in past actions and more recently with the slaughter by the Israelis of hundreds in Lebanon. Palestinians have as much right to live in their homeland as do the Israelis. The Unied Nations, United States and other involved countries must act responsibly here to avert wars and incidents such as the bombings referred to above and the unnecessary invasion of Lebanon by the Israelis or vice versa.

At the end of the day, universal laws prevail and as we all know, for every action there is a reaction, so cut it off before it starts.

I am, etc.,

FOR WORLD PEACE

Kingston
