Shipping personnel learn first aid, CPR
published: Tuesday | August 29, 2006

As part of its ongoing programme to promote health and safety throughout Jamaica's maritime sector, the Shipping Association of Jamaica has again joined with the Heart Foundation of Jamaica to stage seminars and workshops in first aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for industry personnel.

Fifteen shipping industry professionals are currently undergoing training that includes: an introduction to CPR techniques; foreign body airway obstruction management; wound dressing and bandaging; management of burns, scalds, poisoning and seizures; and moving and transporting casualties, among other emergency procedures.

All participants in the training programme will be required to pass both written and practical tests in order to be eligible for the Heart Saver First Aid Certificate from the Heart Foundation of Jamaica.
