The Editor, Sir: There has been lots of media attention placed on badwords, especially when used by artistes and the like. This attention has also carried with it police watch and legal consequences.
Clarifying the report on breadfruit
The Editor, Sir: I wish to correct two inaccuracies in the article titled 'Breadfruit to undergo economic study' that appeared in The Gleaner of August 24, 2006 on page B6 of the Feature section.
That NIS surplus
The Editor, Sir: I must confess that I had not been paying great attention to the issue of the so-called NIS surplus until I had a death in my family and applied for the benefit. Of the cost of $375,000, I received $40,000.
A brilliant programme
The Editor, Sir: It is with great pleasure that I read about the arrival of Cuban teachers in Jamaica. I think this is a brilliant programme in assisting the young people of Jamaica in learning Spanish.
Pool statutory contributions
The Editor, Sir: The National Housing Trust has collected over $50 billion in contributions since its inception 30 years ago. The trust was formed to alleviate the housing shortage due to the growing population.
Guarding our freedom of expression
The Editor, Sir: In your editorial about dance hall and free speech, the writer's convoluted, contradictory and confused argument seems to negate the very position he seemed to slam the people of Grants Pen for exercising freedom of speech.
