Guarding our freedom of expression
published: Wednesday | August 30, 2006

The Editor, Sir:

In your editorial about dance hall and free speech, the writer's convoluted, contradictory and confused argument seems to negate the very position he seemed to slam the people of Grants Pen for exercising freedom of speech.

If the people of Grants Pen did not break any laws in voicing there outrage of police misdirection of duty and resources, then we should all be in support of them for guarding our freedom of expression, which is so sacred in a democratic society such as ours.

The writer should understand that the same rights afforded to the people of Grants Pen could also protect his monthly subscription for Hustler Magazine (that is, if he was to subscribe).

I am, etc.,

CHRIS GILLETT

Former Resident of

Grants Pen Gully

Toronto, Canada
