Ricardo Fuller ... leaving Southampton - file
Jamaica international footballer Ricardo Fuller completed a move to English Championship division club
Stoke City from Southampton following the completion of a successful medical on Wednesday.
The transfer fee has not been disclosed, but the player who once commanded a £1million fee in moving from Preston to Portsmouth in the 2004-2005 season admits to having taken a pay cut in the interest of getting his career back on track.
"I've taken a reduction in my wages to come to Stoke. I've come here to play football and that's the most important thing at the end of the day," Fuller told the club's official website.
"Wherever I go I score goals and create goals, but I can only score if I am on the pitch," the player, now 26, said.
"Hopefully, I can stay fit and get stronger and play games every week and the more I play the better I get. I'm sure I can score goals here," he said.
Recapture the magic
Ravaged by injuries for the past two seasons, the move will see the striker move to his fifth club in four years. Constantly on the move often in recent times, the front man has just not been able to recapture the magic which saw him net 17 goals in 38 league starts for Preston North End in the 2003-2004 Championship season.
Following Preston, the player had an unsuccessful stint at the Premiership level with Portsmouth where he only managed to score two goals in 31 games before returning to the Championship Division with Southampton last season where he continued to struggle for regular playing time. The wily forward did show some promise towards the end of the season by scoring six goals in six games, two of which occurred during a brief loan spell to Ipswich.
Meanwhile, in his continued quest for first-team football, fellow Jamaican international Jason Euell has once again been linked with a move away from English Premiership team Charlton.
Middlesborough, who have been looking for attacking options, have been given permission to speak to the player and have been reported to be in negotiations.
Euell, 29, joined Charlton in a £4.75 million move from Wimbledon in July 2001 but, due to injury, he has failed to figure in recent seasons.
Things have not looked any more optimistic for the midfielder this season under new Charlton manager Iain Dowie as he so far not figured in the 16-man player rotation.
