Fighting sexual urges as a Christian
published: Monday | September 4, 2006

Shelly-Ann Thompson, Freelance Writer

1 Corinthians 6 verse 18:

"Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body."

Christians, like everyone else, experience strong sexual feelings sometimes. And many remain celibate for years without breaking their Christian vows. If you find this unbelievable, read on for more about how two followers of Christ struggled to remain chaste.

Virgin until I find love

Stacy, 39, has never had vaginal penetration. According to the dictionary she is still a virgin. But, her sexual journey has not been pearly white.

"I would not say I have done everything except penetration, as that would be ridiculous. But I have indulged in certain sexual activities."

Stacy has kissed, petted and engaged in oral sex.

"I find it difficult to stay away from sexual encounters but I am adamant that I will not go the whole way outside of marriage."

On occasions, she has mastur-bated. "I don't do that too much, Maybe once every two months."

Being in her 30s, she has endured her share of desires. "I definitely have a rather much more defined sexuality now," she said.

Her oral sex encounter actually happened during her early 30s. "That is something I am not proud of," she said.

"It happened because there is a stronger sexual urge in my 30s and I was tired psychologically of waiting (for sex)."

This desire for sex, she explained, is different from wanting a man or marriage. Her perfectly proportioned body has also worked against her.

"Finding a man is not the problem, many men come on to me. Married and unmarried Christians as well as single and married non-Christians have made advances. It is actually quite incredible."

But she is looking for love and marriage.

"Not for the perfect man, but for someone with whom love is reciprocal."

Yet, her sexual desires are strong. "There are times strong urges pop up even without thinking, I want to have sex. Sometimes it is right before my monthly cycle or even while watching a romantic show."

Her sexual desires are heightened when she is around a date. "It is definitely difficult for me.
